Don’t spend it… Or better said, “Pay yourself first.” One popular way to do this is (if your employer can) to have a portion of the money from your check sent to a separate account if you have direct deposit, or to get 2 checks one to spend and one to save.

When you do buy things try to spend less. I have included a very helpful US government publication on saving money as well as a great coupon site and a blog with money saving tips.

Good luck, while saving is hard, it is well worth it.

best is to open another savings account and to transfer EVERY month an amount. save step by step over long term.

BUDGET, honey….budget, budget, budget. Write out everything you spend each month, cross it off when you pay it, and don’t spend on things you WANT. Only on those you need. Keep a running total of gas money and then come payday, take X amount of cash out (plus $10 just in case) and keep that cash in your glove box to pay for gas. Only use it for gas, nothing else!! You can do that for soda, movies, pizza, etc. That way you won’t be tempted to spend extra. I take a certain amount out each paycheck and put it in the savings right away, so it can’t be spent, also.
